Song of the Day: Ashley by The Dodo's
The original point of having The Playlist was to share some music that inspires me. Which sounds SO CLICHE it might as well be a line from Save The Last Dance. But that was the idea.
I listen to music constantly when I'm writing. I'm a music junkie. I love music more than just about everything else. I get in trouble for always having headphones on, for not being able to be in the car without the radio on. I listen to music in the shower, and walking to work and at work, and on the bus and while I cook. I'm a musician's daughter.
And I'm pretty open-minded about it: I'll listen to anything as long as I can tell it's music. Which limits my ability to deal with death metal and ambient music. But there's nothing I won't try.
All of that is a preface to this song, which inspired a lot of a play I wrote when I was 18, and which still makes it onto playlists I make for writing now. My sister says this song is the perfect soundtrack for a dramatic Indie movie trailer set at a lake house in Maine or Vermont. She's right. You can basically see the shattering china plates and the rustling leaves in autumn.
